She is the best informed human now alive regarding Futurism.

Noted author, futurist, citizen diplomat, and social architect Barbara Marx Hubbard is at the forefront of an emergent 'post-conventional' worldview - a quantum change of epochal magnitude comparable to the Renaissance and the Enlightenment periods - that is unleashing evolutionary forces embodying intensified creativity, deepening spirituality, and environmental systems awareness. Hubbard calls this worldview 'Conscious Evolution', and unlike futurists' usually grandiose visions, is actually codifying it into a cohesive social potential movement.

Hubbard combines persuasive research, a proven track record, and practical grounding. Daughter of toy tycoon Louise Marx, she graduated from 'Bryn Mawr College' (cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science), and studied at 'L'Ecole des Sciences Politique' and the prestigious 'Sorbonne' in Paris, before becoming involved in 1960s social movements desiring a more sustainable Spaceship Earth. Many people regard her as an heir to Buckminster Fuller; her fans include Thom Hartmann and Robert Anton Wilson.

In 1966, Hubbard was a founding member of the 'World Future Society'; she subsequently co-founded the 'Society For The Universal Human', and the 'Foundation For Conscious Evolution'. In the 1970s, Hubbard organized and co-produced twenty-five 'Syncons' ('synergistic conferences'), and the multimedia 'Theater For The Future'. In 1984, Hubbard made political history when her name was placed in nomination for the vice presidency of America.

During the Armageddon-obsessed 1980s (signified by Reagan's 'Strategic Defence Initiative'), Hubbard developed and co-chaired US-Soviet citizen summits. She hosted 'Potentials: Envisioning The New Millennium', a stunning television series which featured Gene Roddenberry, Timothy Leary, Buckminster Fuller, Toni and John Lilly, Jerry Pournelle, and Ray Bradbury as guests. Space migration, life extension, and macropolitical models are just some of the memes that Hubbard has promoted over more than thirty years of advocacy.

In 'Happy Birthday Planet Earth: The Instant Of Co-Operation' (Ocean Tree Books, 1986), Hubbard examined Spaceship Earth as a vast holistic system, exalting our power as co-creators over acquiescence (the 'Age of Aquarius' impulse now grown up). 'The Revelation: A Message Of Hope For The New Millennium' (New World Library, 1995) re-framed the Biblical 'Book of Revelations' cultural script (the foundational mindset of Evangelical Christianity and the Nation of Islam) as a 'Solar Consciousness' reminder of the need to integrate scientific and technological advances with humanism, spirituality, and stewardship. 'Conscious Evolution: Awakening The Power Of Our Social Potential' (New World Library, 1998) was a truly provocative and sweeping millennium manifesto.

By decoding the transformational meta-patterns inherent in the evolutionary process, we are able to discover new choices to imminent and threatening crises. But these choices must be grounded in a pragmatic holistic worldview, because humanity now possesses the power for co-evolution and co-destruction.

For those brave enough to Will and to Dare, Barbara Marx Hubbard's diverse networks, virtuous projects, and optimistic writings are a worthy place to start.
